Automatic Recipient Generation

Automatic recipient generation is found in the Messaging Interface program, Recipients & Distribution pane, by selecting the Action menu item Auto Generate Recipients.

Individual recipients may be auto-generated and added into the distribution table through the use of this dialog.  The available network interfaces are interogated and the subnets they operate on are determined, which results in a searchable IP address range.  Manually added IP ranges are also allowed.

The IP address ranges in the availabe network interface list may then searched, and based on the options selected, results of the search are displayed in the lower Generated Recipient list.  If desired, this resulting list may have individual entries removed.  The list may then be added into the distribution table by pressing the Import button.  Duplicate entries are ignored.

Available Network Interface List

This list is in the upper pane of the dialog.and the entries in the list are based on the avialable interfaces that exist on the system.  Selecting an entry in this list allows it to be deleted by pressing the Remove button.  Pressing the Add IP Range button displays a small dialog with property fields for

  • Base IP Address
  • Subnet Mask
The Base IP Address should be the lowest value in the IP range that is to be searched. The Subnet Mask should be the appropriate mask for IP addresses in the searchable range. Pressing the Add button adds this entry to the Available Network List.

Generated Recipients List

The Generated Recipients List is populated upon pressing the Discover Recipients button.  One or more entries must be in the Available Network Interface list for the Discover Recipients button to become enabled.

The Generated Recipients List has its entries added based on conditions determined by the checkboxes:
  • Discover only those with/without DNS entries

    If with is checked, then only entries that have a successful DNS lookup are added to the list. If without is checked, then only entries that do not have a successful DNS lookup are added.

  • Check for a logon at the discovered host

    When checked, the recipient machine is interogated to return and display the current logon user name.

  • Discover only those with logon information

    When checked, only those recipient machines with a current logon name are added.


Pressing the Import Button

When the Import button is pressed, the entries in the Generated Recipients list are added to the distribution table.  Duplicate entries are ignored.
