Nobix Alert

Settings

(see screen example below)

The Settings dialog provides functions for starting and stopping the Nobix Alert Service, as well as setting values for the following properties:
  • Failed Delivery Retry Period

This value is expressed in seconds, and is the period of time that is allowed to pass before another attempt is made to send a message that did not reach its recipient.

  • Retain Message History Hours

The amount of time in hours that message history information is retained in the Alert service tables. Once this time period has passed since an entry is added into the message table, the entry is deleted.

  • Default Message Expiration Minutes

The amount of time in minutes that a message remains active. After this period of time, unsent or unacknowledged messages are set to a status of expired.

  • TCP/IP Port Number

The port number that the Nobix Alert desktop clients listen on. The port number that the Nobix Alert Service listens on is always one number higher that the client value. The default value is 31242, which means that the service listens on 31243. Alert generators for UNIX/Linux/Windows send alert messages to the Nobix Alert service on 31243.

If the default number of 31242 is changed, desktop alert clients and alert generators will have to respecify their port numbers. For desktop alert clients, there are two ways to specify a non default port number, either thru a commnand line argument, or a registry entry. Alert generators must use the command line argument method. The command line argument for all programs is:

      -port <port-number>

where <port-number> is the desired value.

The registry entry method for desktop alert clients setting the registry value (REG_SZ):

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Nobix\NobixAlert\TcpPort

      to the desired value.

  • Keep Logon Names Updated

When checked, individual recipient entries have their hostnames resolved, and Active Directory is accessed to determine the current logon at a particular recipient machine. The current information is displayed in the Recipients & Distribution pane. Additionally, if Update If No Logon is checked, then logoff's are attemped to be recorded as well, and if unchecked, only the last logon information is retained (which may not be current).
