The Nobix Alerter desktop pop-up software runs on the user's PC and is started when the user logs on to the PC. This software runs quietly in the background and displays its icon in the system tray.

When the Alerter receives an incoming alert message from the Nobix Alert server, the message options included in with the alert determine the display configuration of the alert. The basic configuration is a HTML browser dialog displayed as the top-most window with an Accept and a Dismiss button, with 5 beeps, one per second. The Nobix Alert server logs the time that the alert was received at the desktop.

Pressing the Accept or Dismiss buttons causes a message to be sent to the Nobix Alert server indicating the user's action.

To manually start the desktop alerter, on the Windows Start menu:

Select All Programs → Nobix Alert → Start Pop-Up Alerter

• If the Accept and Dismiss buttons are not displayed, a termination control box is displayed in the upper right corner of the dialog.
• If an alert tone has been specified for the message, a "silence" button is then displayed in the center of the alert during the playing of the alert tone. Pressing the Silence button stops the playing of the alert tone.
• The message may indicate a specific WAV file be played as an alert tone. The default alert tone is 5 beeps, one per second. The play length may be one second through continuous.
• Seven different alert tones are included with the installation. They may be previewed using the Messaging Interface.
• The alert dialog is an active browser window. It may contain links or other navigation features outside of Nobix Alert.
• The message tracking number appears in the title bar in the alert pop-up.

Nobix Alerter for the desktop may be installed directly using the supplied or downloaded executable setup program.

Additionally, Nobix Alerter may be installed from the Nobix Alert server using the included deployment program. Using the deployment program results in a remote silent install on the user's PC.

An activation key is not required for the Alerter. Licensing is controlled on the Nobix Alert server.

Nobix Alerter is supported on all versions of Windows from XP and later.
