Downloading Nobix Alert nAlert to an AIX, HP-UX, Linux or Solaris computer
  1. Click the Nobix Alert Download link.

  2. Click the download link entitled Nobix Alert Command Line Alerter for UNIX/Linux.

  3. When the download dialog appears, click Save.

  4. When prompted, specify the directory into which you want to save the installation file.

  5. When the download completes, transfer the download file to your Unix machine's /tmp directory (or any other suitable directory) and extract the nAlert installation files into a clean directory. You can do this by uncompressing the download file and then using tar to extract the files to a temporary directory, for example /tmp/nalertInstall. Use the actual filename that you transferred from the Nobix website -- the example here uses nalertUnix_0100.redist.tar.gz and that may not be the actual filename that you downloaded.

    • cd /tmp
      gunzip nalertUNIX_0100.redist.tar.gz
      mkdir nalertInstall
      cd nalertInstall
      tar xvf ../nalertUNIX_0100.redist.tar

The installation files are now located in /tmp/nalertInstall

  6. Ensure that you are logged in as root or another user that has directory creation capability in the /opt directory. The installation script is named INSTALL in uppercase. The destination directory for the software is /opt/nalert. You will be prompted for a software activation key during the installation.

If you followed the example above, to begin the installation enter the command:

      ./INSTALL

After installation, the nalert program may be found at:

      /opt/nalert/bin/nalert

  • You may then remove the /tmp/nalertInstall directory.

  • Refer to the Nobix Alert Documentation for information and help.

  • Note that Nobix Alert uses ports 31242 and 31343, both TCP and UDP, for communication between the Nobix Alert server and other systems.
