PageAlert Quick Start Instructions
After installing PageAlert, follow these steps to start the software and construct
your PageAlert configuration. Once these simple steps are complete you can begin
to send and receive alerts and notification messages.
First, the PageAlert service must be running.
- To start the PageAlert service and view current activity, navigate to:
Start --> Programs --> PageAlert --> PageAlert Activity
- You will be prompted to start the PageAlert service if it is not running.
- A red PageAlert label at the top of the dialog indicates that the service
is not running.
- A yellow PageAlert label indicates that the service is running in a “suspended”
mode.
- To allow PageAlert to execute, go to the File menu and de-select Suspend
Operation. The PageAlert label will then turn white or gray.
Next, you will need to construct a PageAlert configuration using the Configuration
program.
- Navigate to:
Start --> Programs --> PageAlert --> PageAlert Configuration
- If you are planning on using email alerting (to a desktop PC or cell phone, etc.),
first add an email server under the Email Servers tree node.
- Next, add one or more device profiles. Device profiles define the destinations for
the alerts (for example, desktop or cell phone email, pagers, etc.).
- Once your profile or profiles have been added, add one or more Notification Master
entries. These entries define the incoming trigger message and the specific profile(s)
to activate for the alert.
Once you have a configuration, you can test it with the PageAlert Client Testing
Window.
- To open the Client Testing Window, navigate to:
Start --> Programs --> PageAlert --> Tools --> Client
Testing Window
Any messages that are sent from the Client Testing Window to the PageAlert server,
and that match an existing Notification Master record, will trigger an alert. The
alert displays in the PageAlert Activity window.
